Mitsu is a purebred Cocker Spaniel and will be 14 in January. She's endured so much and is a real trooper! She's got a great personality and I love everything about her. She's literally almost human and she is my life! |

My dog Moose -- or as I call him, "The Fearless Moose" -- was adopted in 2000 at six months old and is now nine years old. He is such a joy to have around. DogAge has had some wonderful tips on how to help keep him healthy and young acting. He is my buddy. We hike every day.
Moose is part Shar-Pei and part Basenji and weighs 50 lbs. He is about the size of a Heeler. DogAge, here is a Christmas photo of the Reindeer Moose, now this wasn’t his idea you understand! But he tolerates me. -- Danielle and The Fearless Moose . . . arf! |

When I found Symba she was 6 months old and 35 pounds. I bought her from a friend’s niece’s friend. She was so sad; all she wanted was love. You could see in her eyes she was scared and lonely. Later we found out she had been abused too. I bought her for 50 bucks! The best money I ever spent. After months and months of trying to get her back to health -- and two heats -- she was gaining weight and looking good. It took my dad 4 months to get close to her. We figured a male abused her, for she wouldn't go out a door when it was windy, would bark at anyone in a uniform. Children she loved to be around them; took years to get her to calm down from her experience as a puppy. Now at 14 years old she is a treasured part of our family, and goes for car rides everyday if in the wintertime it isn't too cold. She became a wonderful family member. I thank God for her every day. |

Mom is always reading to us fascinating tips and fun things to do and know every nite from DogAge. It is really helping us stay young and enjoying our time with our human parents as well as them with us. Mom especially likes to read the health tips, but we enjoy the fun stuff. We're on our way now to the dog park, and then a nice walk to top it off. I'm the big sister (brown), Sheila, who just turned 3 in Dec., and my sister is Pasha (black), who was rescued and is 2 1/2 yrs. old. We are both fun loving Shelties! -- PAWS |

From left to right this is Missy (1 year and 10 months) and Chica (5 years and 3 months). They are our little girls and we absolutely love them! There is never a dull moment with them and when we took the DogAge test we found out that Chica is actually 5 years younger and Missy was 2.5 years younger. Along with this we found out some great tips and tricks to make them have a younger and longer life. -- PB |

This is my Max, an 8-year-old Beagle. He is a champion CH Applegates Max A Million Bailey and had some unfortunate time as a stud dog in a horrid puppy mill where he was debarked, turned white from the stress (was a tri before) and received an infected nail which is now malformed from being in his own feces and had to fight for space and food. He is now in training to be a therapy dog as he has learned to forgive and has such a sweet personality and loves kids to read to him (I am a pediatric therapist in the local schools) and loves to give kisses. He loves to go to the off-leash park and see his friends and get all those sniffs that beagles love so. He loves to snuggle up to his sister, also a rescue, 2-year-old Chloe who is a chocolate beagle. He has brought me so much love and is in his furever home. -- JB, WA |

We rescued Bailey from our local Animal Protective League. He was left there because his family lost their home and couldn't take him with them. Bailey is a beautiful 1½-year-old Standard Schnoodle that we've had for 4 months. He just passed his Canine Good Citizenship Certification and is making friendly visits with me at a local nursing home. Bailey gets along with my 2 cats (one is a PAWS rescue and the other one we rescued off the street and brought him indoors for the rest of his life.) He is also gentle with my grandchildren. He is the best dog I've ever had. And we love him to pieces. Isn't he the cutest?!? -- Sandy |

We are so blessed to have Jello in our lives. Our big love bug Yellow Lab mix came into our lives this summer when we adopted him as a 6 month old frail sickly puppy from the city pound. With tons of love and even more laughs, Jello has turned into a healthy and happy young dog and has chewed (literally!) his way into our hearts. I can't remember how I got through my days before him. He loves to spend his days snoozin' in our laps and even lets us torture him with mullet wig costumes on Halloween! I wish everyone could have a dog as sweet and special as my Jello, which is why I think he should be the dog of this week and every other week. -- LJ |

All you have to do is to take one look at Maggie Rose and she'll steal your heart. Maggie is an 8-month-old Bischon mix that we rescued from the Bichon FurKids Rescue. She is so bright, playful, and full of energy -- but she does save some time for snuggles. -- DM, CA |

I'd like to nominate Brasil, my 2½-year-old Whippit as he has recently been voted "Therapy Dog of the Year" from Stamford Hospital in Connecticut by the Planetree Hospital Association. We head up the Therapy Dog group of over thirty dogs in the program of weekly visits to patients. Brasil has over 125 hours of pet visitation in all departments of the hospital. In addition, Brasil visits nursing homes in the area. I pass on the info you provide to my canine participants as "great tips for your dog's well-being." -- DS |

Allow me to introduce you to Pekoe (as in Orange Pekoe Tea; we are tea drinkers). Pekoe is a NON-tricolor beagle (he’s orange/auburn/white) who we rescued from a rescue group in May. He is now 9 months old and the love of our lives. He follows in the footsteps of Phil (aka, Sir Cream Cheese of Philadelphia; a tricolor beagle who got his name because “bagel” looks like “beagle,” and what do you schmear on a bagel other than cream cheese), our first beagle, who passed away in October 2007.
Completely different than Phil in personality, Pekoe brings energy, spunk, and good looks to our family. Everything he does seems to be adorable . . . and generally it’s documented in pictures. DogAge has been instrumental in advising us what is good for Pekoe and what is bad for Pekoe, as in human foods and/or plants that may be harmful. We are thankful!
We also believe that he would be an exceptional addition to your “Wall of Fame.” -- DW, PA |

Sadie is a 19 month Maltipoo. She loves to go swinging in the park. She is a bundle of joy to both my husband and me. My husband has cancer, and it seems like she knows he is sick. She is constantly checking up on him or sitting on his lap. If he makes a funny sound, she is running into the den to see what he is doing. We are so lucky we found her ad in the paper that one Sunday. She is a very smart dog. -- Nancy |

This is Kaine, my very best and truest friend. Kaine came to me via a very kind veterinarian, Dr. Marks, in Port Charlotte, Florida. I have Multiple Sclerosis and Cancer and Kaine senses that, especially on my weak days. He goes to work with me every day and if I am having trouble keeping my balance, he will lean up against me. I have customers that come in to see him without needing anything from me. Shortly after Kaine came into my life, his vet tech, Heidi, noticed a huge tumor in his mouth. Dr. Marks and her staff cared for Kaine, performed his surgery, and he is on the mend and doing well. He is like a puppy again! I don't know what I would do without him and I hope he feels the same about me. We have taken the DogAge test and will continue with the excellent tips you give. I want him to have the long, healthy life he deserves. -- KB |

This is Gracie, she is 11 months old and is a Great Dane-Greyhound mix rescue. She was in several shelters and foster homes before coming to live with us. She can run like the wind, but thinks she is a lap-dog! She is really great with other animals and is even learning to share her space with my cats, which is usually an issue with greyhounds. I've never owned a dog this large before so it's good to have a site where I can find answers to the many questions such a large dog poses! -- LH |

Thank you for this web site. We have had our little Lhasa Apso, Katy, for 3 1/2 years and are pleased to learn she is 4 years younger than the average for her breed. She is so much a part of our lives, and now we have more hope she will be with us for a long time, 'cause if not, we would just have to get another Lhasa Apso as much like her as we could. Thanks for all the good suggestions and reinforcement that we are taking good care of her. -- MT, WA |

Just thought you would like to know what our "mixed breed" of designer dog is. She is a "Crooked Nosed Terrishu." We love her and she is fantastic! Father was terrier and mother was Shitsu. This is my dear Abby, a purebred Australian Cattle Dog that was given to me by my ex-husband. He is the owner of Abby's father, Smokey, who was born before the AKC acknowledged the breed. I was skeptical at first because they are a very active and sometimes aggressive breed. I am disabled and live alone and not a moment goes by that she is not right next to me. When I am in pain (I have fibromyalgia and chronic back pain) she quietly gets up beside me. She is very smart and knows so many tricks I can't begin to write them all down. My grandson and I go camping and I let her off her leash and she circles me and Quinten for the entire hike. I think that if I walked a mile, she has walked 2 miles. The key to getting along with this breed and many others is to establish that YOU are in control, they are NOT. If they think that they are in control, THEY ARE!! It was hard in the beginning but it makes for such a well-behaved animal. Abby and I travel a lot and she has pleasantly stayed at homes of NON-animal friends that have fallen in love with her, to my complete surprise. I would recommend more articles on controlling your dog; many people have problems with that. -- KS, IL |

Dozer is a wonderful yellow Lab, that we rescued 18 months ago. He is 4 years old, but a lively 17 year old in dog age years. We walk 6-8 miles per day, and we play lots of catch with a tennis ball and dog chucker. Dozer eats very well but very healthy, and we hope to have many more years of fun! -- AW, NY |

Raroo (just like Astro would say). My name is Maggie Girlfriend. I'm a healthy 7-year-old GSP (German short-haired pointer) and weigh 65 lbs. I'm full of love, mischief and puppy dog energy. My mommy takes me for long walks, plays and rubs my belly. I love pointing at ducks, geese, rabbits, squirrels and kitty cats. Also, I love going for rides in the car. When I relax I chill out with my mommy and daddy on the couch. I am a lucky GSP! -- Maggie Girlfriend, NJ |

ShadeTree is our six-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback. We call her Miss Thang, or Shadylady sometimes. DogAge let us know with your test that ShadeTree's DogAge was 4.3 years younger than the average DogAge for her breed. That helped us to know we were on the right track in her upkeep. Ever since then, we have always looked forward to any e-mails from your DogAge site, and many of them are very helpful with bringing up Shady. Thanks so much. -- Terri & Chet, NY |

Reba was a rescue Golden Retriever who we adopted as a 10 year old. At that time, her dog age was 60, she was 30 lbs overweight, lethargic, and had trouble walking. This winter, when she passed away from cancer at almost 14 years of age, her dog age was only 55! By living a healthier lifestyle in our home, the last 3 years of her life were spent as a younger, slimmer, more energetic and playful girl. Thank you DogAge for helping people see how to make their dogs younger, healthier, and happier so they can be with us longer!!!! -- NO |

I just logged on to DogAge for the first time today, and already I have learned some things that will affect my puppy Rosco's lifestyle for the better. I have every confidence that, with the help of DogAge, Rosco will mature into the healthiest, best adult dog that he can be! I'm looking forward to receiving more tips and information on how I can prolong his life and improve his well-being. -- RH, CA |

Hector is a 2-year-old Scottish Terrier -- although we’re proud to say that his real age is 4.7 years younger than other dogs his breed! Hector is our baby -- and an absolutely great dog. Although he objects sometimes, DogAge has encouraged us to continue with his healthy habits -- like brushing his pearly whites every week. Hector also has a big brother, an Amazon parrot named Fat Boy. Sometimes they have bouts of sibling rivalry -- like when Hector realizes his birdie brother has a Kong, too. But he’s a great little brother and only chases the birds outside! -- Guillermo & Erin, OH |

My name is Zeus and I am all about the tennis ball! I will play all day if my human would let me. She makes me take breaks so I don't overexert myself. As if that would happen! I love to chase squirrels, groundhogs, birds, and anything that thinks it can go faster than me. I LOVE to dig in the mud and dirt (my human doesn't like that so much!). I'm the best little thing to happen to my human friend. We have two cats and another dog in the home, so we all keep our human company. Never a dull moment in our home! I've learned a lot on DogAge and thanks to all the info I'm still a lean, mean, tennis ball chasing machine! And I'm 6.7 years younger (I'm only 15.6)!! Thanks, DogAge!! -- Zues |

My dog is a healthy 11-year-old Yorkie named Gatsby. Yes, his best friend's name is Daisy and she is a Yorkie, too. I read your tips to Gatsby and he sends his thanks for caring enough to keep him healthy. Thanks! -- DB |

My name is Jenny Jo, I'm a Shetland Sheep Dog ("Sheltie"). My Mom learned that she is doing almost everything correctly to keep me safe, healthy, and very happy. My doctor and my Mom are good friends. Once when I had a urinary tract problem, she came to our apartment on a Sunday morning. My doctor's name is JoLee. Mom sent DogAge information to all my cousins . . . that way they can be younger, too! I like to dress up a lot. My Mom got me a "Cowgirl" outfit and I won a prize at a Halloween contest and Mom sent in many of my photos that are used for e-cards. My Mom has been sick for several months, but she worked out a way for me to still get exercise . . . actually more exercise than before! My Daddy lets me sleep on his tummy sometimes, or between his pillows. Mom is going to attach three photos of me (one with my Daddy). Thank you for all the great information . . . keep up the good work!! Hugs & Barks -- Jenny Jo |

Libby was a beautiful German-shorthaired pointer/boxer mix who had an incredible spirit and love for life. When she was just 2-years-old, her owner took her to a shelter in San Diego because her house had burned down. And the moment I saw Libby’s sweet face and soulful eyes, I knew she was my dog. Libby loved her walks, riding in the car, sitting in the sun, and most of all, being with her family. This past year, she battled Cushing’s disease, pneumonia, and a brain tumor. But despite all of this, she would smile that awesome smile, wag her little tail, and turn on her side for a tummy rub. Not once did she complain. Not once did she give up. I will remember Libby for her courage, her strength, and most of all, her incredible smile. She was my hero. Her sweet soul lives on. -- SR,CA |

Dear DogAge, Meet Divot, he is the BEST! Divot will be 5 years old this month and with each passing day he brings more and more joy and smiles to everyone he encounters. He loves taking rides. This was demonstrated when I took him for a run on the golf course, only for him to hop in the seat next to me on the golf car after running the first fairway. His favorite ride is with his head sticking out of the Jeep's sunroof. He is friendly, yet protective, and he is a blessing that I am so very grateful for. -- KB |

Dear DogAge, When my sister and I bought a house we never imagined that getting dogs would do so much to make our house a home. Dear DogAge, Bella was abandoned at a Lamb fair when she was three months old. We were the lucky recipients after 10 days of trying to find her owners. Bella gets me out of bed every morning to take me on a 1/2 mile walk. Best thing that ever happened to me. She is funny and playful and VERY well behaved. Dear DogAge, Greetings from the winter trail in interior Alaska. My name is JaMarcus, and my sister Luna and I are racing sled dogs born last September in interior Alaska. We are the youngest puppies at Akraider Racing Kennels in Two Rivers, Alaska, but someday we will run our way onto our musher Bill Greenslade's sled-dog racing team. Both my parents are on the race team, so I hope with a whole lot of work and proper care and training we can be racing our rookie year in 2010. Hopefully, joining my mom and dad in the winner's circle! Till then, I'm a happy puppy living my life under the northern lights in the last frontier. Have you seen my moose bone? See ya on the trail. Dear DogAge, This is Como Chaby. He is not even 1 year yet. We call him Como because he has a long name. Como Chaby is a Chihuahua/Toy Fox Terrier. We rescued him from a lady that put him in a closet with no food or water for a couple of weeks then she threw him outside in the snow. Como is a little dog and gets scared easily so we are extra careful with him. Como is a good dog. He hopes to be the Dog of the Week! Please pick him! He will be great! --Catherine |
