Diabetes is defined as either a lack of insulin hormone or a lack of insulin activity. Dogs with diabetes have difficulty controlling the amount of sugar in their blood, which can lead to serious infections and liver or kidney failure. Obesity can be a risk factor for diabetes. Presently, diabetes in dogs is incurable, but can be managed and controlled with proper insulin administration and dietary management.
