Breed Profile: Meet the Yorkshire Terrier
Originally published on October 02, 2008

This 5–7 pound silky bundle of energy has come a long way from his rat-catching days in England a century ago. Delicate features and a long steel-blue and tan coat have earned him fashionista status, but don't think this toy terrier is a mere accessory. Yorkies may be tiny, but they have larger-than-life personalities. Bravely protective, a readiness to bark makes them terrific watchdogs, too. The downside: They can become annoyingly noisy and may snap, especially at young children and other pets. They lap up love from their owners, but they need firm and consistent training to avoid becoming spoiled.
